If you are new to Rift or the online world of MMORPGs then you might be wondering how to choose your Rift professions. Most new players have a hard time balancing their crafting skill and their adventure skill. Often times there just aren’t enough time to skill both.
A great way to help gain gold in Rift and have enough time to level is to choose all three gathering professions as your Rift crafting skills. The reason for this is because you can skill up in gathering professions easily while out on the battle grounds. Often time’s players run into harvesting nodes while running quest lines. The raw materials from the Rift gathering professions can then be sold in the auction house for huge profits.
It only really becomes advantageous for players to utilize the other crafting professions in Rift at higher levels. This is because you can create nice gear from rare items. At lower levels you simply cannot afford the rare materials to craft with nor would you want to because you will out level them quickly.
Once you have reached adventure level 50 you can consider dropping one or more of your gathering professions in Rift. Some people choose to drop all three and pick up crafting professions instead. This is a really smart idea if you have stock piled some of your raw materials. Also at higher levels you will be gaining more gold in Rift through grouping and raiding so you can afford to buy some raw materials to skill up on.
One thing you might also consider doing is picking up two gathering skills such as butchering and foraging and then also picking up rune crafting. Rune crafting in Rift is a standalone skill meaning that you gain raw materials for the skill by using a skill you get when you learn rune crafting. This ability is called Rune brake and you can use it on magical items to break them down for raw rune crafting materials. You can then turn around and sell the raw materials or craft them to make armor augmentations for your character or to sell.
You might also think about starting a new character and leveling it up. This would give you an additional set of professions to help your original character.
However you decided to choose your Rift professions, the good news is they aren't permanent. With a little bit of work you can easily master a new skill. The more gold you have to throw at your Rift professions the faster you will skill up in them.
