Just a couple of days ago my friend and I were talking about just how competitive Star Craft 2 can be as a game. Now we both play other online competitive games such as Team Fortress 2 and Street Fighter V, but we both agree that Star Craft 2 is so much more intense and competitive than many other games out there. So here are 5 tips to help any beginners of Star Craft 2 to get started.
#1 Stick to 1 Race
Luckily, Star Craft 2 only has 3 playable races to choose from. So it isn't too hard to find a race that you would enjoy. The problem is that many new Star Craft 2 players make the mistake of wanting to become a jack of all trades by playing all 3 races.
While it is cool to be able to say that you're great with all 3 races, but in order to compete in the real professional Star craft 2 league being great is just not good enough. You need to be a master of a single race, and the only way to become a master at anything is to stick to it!
#2 Learn Everything about Your Race
Most people just learn build orders or strategies, but the real professionals of Star craft 2 invent their own strategies. Anyone can read a build order and use it, but when something doesn't go their way in a game they just give up.
That's because they don't understand their own race well enough. It is great to have some build orders to get you started but in a real game anything goes, and you must know your race well enough to change your game plan at any moment.
#3 Learn the Maps
Most Star craft 2 players simply don't spent enough time on understanding the maps. Every single Star Craft 2 map plays very differently. There are choke points, ramps, destructible rocks, cliffs, etc... All these things plays a major role on how you composite your strategies.
#4 Practices, Practice, Practice
98% of all professional Star craft 2 players are Koreans, and they are damn good at the game. But you know what their secret is? I remember in an interview with one of the top Star Craft 2 players in South Korea, he said that when he is not in a tournament he practices 10 hours a day! No wonder he is so good.
#5 Read and Learn More Different Strategies
Finally, read and learn more different types of strategies. The more strategies you know the better prepared you will be. The more you know the less you'll be surprised about when your opponent tries a certain strategy on you. And the less surprised you are, the more focus you can be!
