Entropia Universe's story is vague, and disconnected from our own, to increase marketability and consumer base. What kind of history could they have had? This article gives a slight idea!
Day in the future mankind found a way to accomplish interstellar travel. They looked for another world that would be suitable for life. Plenty of machines were sent to the world in order for it to become more habitable, and it became surroundings that were worth living in. Plenty of humans then came to the planet and colonized this planet called Calypso in order to make money from plenty of skills including hunting and mining. But everything went wrong from the beginning.
When the humans came to the planet, the robots that had made the planet hospitable revolted on the humans. They wished to keep control of the world that they had built and maintained order on. This became known as the Robot Revolt in later times. When new colonists finally put their foes to rest, they were not rewarded as they thought would happen. Robots from another planet that had had a similar issue with revolt now controlled a mining colony. They made themselves in to machines of war and found a new know-how to teleport themselves directly to the surface of the planet of Calypso. The war keeps going and humans try to find ways to defeat their enemies by both coming up with their own technologies and expanding on the work the robots have accomplished for them.
In spite of all the troubles accompanying living on the planet, the colonists decided to stay on the planet in order to continue to explore and colonize more of the planet.
